A 13-year-old boy apparently hot-wired a public bus and took it on a joyride in downtown Beijing and crashed it into a dozen vehicles in a scene witnesses likened to a blockbuster movie, state media reported Monday.

Not that this happens everyday in the US (yet I’m not sure I would think it so strange if it did happen in the US) but I’m amazed that it happened in China. Having worked with children and teenagers in China for many years my experience has been that 13 year old children are fairly docile. My first thoughts then were: where did this kid learn how to hot-wire a bus; from a strictly “take initiative” perspective, he is not your average 13 year old and finally what would drive him to do it.

  1. Wow, that’s unreal in China. When he grows up send him to Toronto, Canada. He’ll fit right in with the other newly “licensed” drivers here. Who does he hang out with that taught him to hot wire a bus? I wonder if he wants to be a bus driver when he grows up? For now he should concentrate on jr high school.

Outside of China, underage kids driving buses is not that uncommon, but still illegal. Still, he’s a little young.
