Anti-N**ga Machine

5-O on my back just because I’m black. I can’t walk in the park just because I’m dark. Boys in blue, sweatin’ me and my crew. *** This is what I mean an anti-n**ga machine.

~~Chuck D

“They tried to round up the drug dealers,” one friend told me. “And basically beat the shit out of every black person they could find.”

I just talked to a English colleague of mine that apparently arrived after the sweep and talked to someone that saw it first-hand. I’ve have no independent verification that the sweep actually took place … although sadly, I can absolutely believe it happened. The problem though is that this, if true, will only be reported by word of mouth (both virtual and real) thereby stifling its newsworthiness. This however, is not the first (or I suspect the last) sweep against African or African looking peoples. I remember something similar happened way back in the day about two weeks prior to my first-ever trip to China when a argument between African students and campus security lead to a fight and then eventually to nationwide protests against all blacks. Those events were intense enough that even my college in the US recommended against me going or waiting another semester before going. China is developing in many, many ways but this is one area in China (and in the US) that change has been slow in coming.

  1. Man that is messed up. I didn’t know crap like this happens in China. Yeah, there is racism in China. It’s very sad. I’m really sickened by it. The only thing I can do is try to become a better person myself, and hopefully in the process make a difference.

    That’s messed up.

  2. The link is broken (“Chinese poilce beat up Africans). Post enough details so that the story can be found thorugh Google, or other.

  3. Link was good as of 9/24/07 06:30 AM Beijing Time. Not really sure what happened or why the link suddenly went dead. Could it be that the powers that be have decided to shut it down?

  4. Would the author of this blog please get in touch with the author of Africabeat? :-)
